GOD?BLESS?THE?CAT?THAT’S?GOT?ITS?OWN

OCEAN?PARK — Susan Holway of Oysterville looks on as pastor Tom Elkins blesses her cat Sunday at the Ocean Park United Methodist Church annex, where the annual blessing of the animals attracted dogs, cats, and guinea pigs — and their adoring owners. The blessing originated in Catholic churches in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for animals. However, many other Christian denominations, including Methodists, have adopted the practice.
