Lila Rose Scheer Celebrates 80th Birthday
OCEAN PARK - A fun-fulfilled weekend was planned in honor of Lila Scheer, former Chinook Observer columnist, to celebrate her 80th birthday.
The weekend celebration began Friday, May 9, with a luncheon cruise on the Spirit of Portland, followed by a party for Lila on Saturday. Many friends and family members from Utah, Oregon, and Washington contributed letters, photos, and memories to be gathered in a book of remembrance.
Mother of five children, Mrs. Scheer returned to school after age 45. After graduating from Mt Hood Community College, she continued at Portland State, and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Thereafter, she taught kindergarten in both Oregon and Washington.
Mrs. Scheer wrote "Hearth and Home" columns for the Chinook Observer during the 1990s. Lila lives in Ocean Park, and has always been active in her church and community. In addition to her daughters, Rose McDonald, Alice Beatty, Arlena Moluf, and sons, Joseph Scheer and Charles Beatty (deceased), Lila has 14 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
