PORT OF ILWACO - Viki and Jack Hendrickson and Cindy and Craig Anderson bought the Harbor Lights motel, restaurant and lounge a year ago and since then the two couples have been immersed in a complete remodel of the business.
The motel portion has been transformed, with each of the rooms repainted and refurnished with a different theme, including a dog-themed room and a clown-themed room. Two upstairs view rooms look over the port's marina and each has a balcony. One of the view rooms has a canopied bed. All the rooms sport new beds, TVs, hair-dryers, refrigerators, microwaves and lamps and are available with king-, queen- and double-size mattresses.
The Harbor Lights restaurant, long a favorite with tourists and fishermen, sports a new paint job and carpet. The menu will remain the same and breakfast for early-rising fishermen will be available at 4 a.m.
Upstairs, the newly-named Sea Pearl Lounge has been completely gutted and oak floors installed along with a new cherry-stained oak bar and a new paint job. The lounge will open for business Friday and a grand opening is planned for Saturday, April 29, from 1 p.m. to midnight, with live music by Salty Dog of Warrenton, Ore. Door prizes and free hot dogs will be part of the opening night.
Viki Hendrickson says the lounge will be available for wedding receptions as well as meetings and family get-togethers in the mornings. "I'm so excited," she said. "I can't wait."
It's a new life for a business that has been a popular fixture on the waterfront for many years.
