GRAYS RIVER - Ila Mae Larson, 79, died Jan. 14, 2006, in Grays River. She was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Wheaton, Minn., to Louis and Verna (Hartwig) Jacobs. She grew up in Wheaton, Minn., and graduated from high school there in 1944.

She came to Wahkiakum County in the late 1940s, and she spent the remainder of her life in the Grays River area. On Aug. 6, 1948, she married Robert O. Larson in Skamokawa.

Mrs. Larson was a homemaker who loved cooking, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Grays River United Methodist Church and she was a chaplain for the Grays River Grange, where she was a member for 57 years. She was also a dedicated community volunteer and volunteered with the Rosburg Senior Luncheon program.

Survivors include her husband, Robert "Bob" Larson at home; sons, Douglas Larson of Grays River and Mark Larson and Brian Larson of Astoria, Ore.; brothers Dr. Duane Jacobs of Alabama and Errol Gooding of Wisconsin; sisters Vionne Crouch of Camas and Betty Jean Hasbargen of Wisconsin; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, her brother Lowell Jacobs preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2:30 p.m. at the Grays River Methodist Church. Viewing will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., both Thursday, Jan. 19 and Friday, Jan. 20 at Dowling Funeral Home, 45 Broadway in Cathlamet.
