ILWACO The Ilwaco City Council is accepting applications for a newly formed five-member Parks and Recreation Commission to study parks and recreation needs of the citizens of Ilwaco. Positions 1, 2 and 3 will initially serve a four-year term expiring 2014, and Positions 4 and 5 will be assigned two-year terms expiring 2012. Four of five commissioners must be residents of the city of Ilwaco, and no member shall serve more than two full consecutive terms.
The city council and I value the input from our community members, said Mayor Mike Cassinelli. By serving as a member of the new Parks and Recreation Commission, citizens will have an opportunity to provide input into the parks and recreation planning process that will affect their neighborhoods and city.
The Parks and Recreation Commission serves as an advisory body to the city council and reports to the mayor. The commission will study the recreation needs of the citizens of Ilwaco and make recommendations to the city council; champion the Black Lake invasive species eradication; coordinate the Black Lake Fishing Derby; coordinate various recreation programs between agencies; make recommendations for the beautification, improvement, management and control of all parks and recreation grounds, facilities and open space; make recommendations for lands and grounds acquisition, development and funding; and make recommendations to the city council and the planning commission regarding adoption of or amendments to the parks, open space and recreation element of the Comprehensive Plan.
Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest, including seat desired, by March 1 at 5 p.m., to the mayor at Ilwaco City Hall, 120 First Avenue North, P.O. Box 548, Ilwaco, WA 98624.
