OLYMPIA - Jans V. Tala, 85, died Sept. 4, 2005, in Olympia. The son of Sanfred and Hanna (Savukoski) Wiitala, he was born April 13, 1920, in Naselle. His given name was Hannes Wiitala and later in life he changed it to Jans Tala.

He grew up in Naselle and was a 1938 graduate of Naselle High School. During World War II he worked in the shipyards. Later he moved to California where he worked in aircraft production for a number of years. For the past 20 years he lived in Aberdeen, until poor health necessitated a move to an Olympia care center.

He never married. Survivors include his siblings Harold and Ray Wiitala, Katherine Wiitala and Ruth Fields. He was preceded in death by sisters Esther Nicolson and Mitzi Weible.

No service will be held. Private committal will be at Peaceful Hill Cemetery, Naselle. Those wishing may make memorials to the Peaceful Hill Cemetery Association in care of Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, P.O. Box 417, Long Beach, WA 98631.
