Joan Marie FlesherASTORIA - Joan Marie Flesher, 60, of Ocean Park, died April 20, 2003 in Astoria. The daughter of John D. and Mary E. (Edwards) Russell, she was born Oct. 11, 1942 in Bay City, Mich.

She was raised in the Los Angeles area, and moved to Naselle in the early 1980s. She was an active volunteer in the Naselle school and in the library. Her family remembers her love of gardening. She enjoyed being outdoors and enjoyed the wildlife around her home, and she loved taking care of her home. Mrs. Flesher collected ferns and shamrocks and was known for her nurturing personality. She will be missed by her family very much.

Survivors include two daughters, Laurie Ann Lanni of Portland and Robin Eileen Nancoles of Salmon, Idaho; son Anthony Michael Lanni of Salmon, Idaho; a step-daughter Elena Sepulveda of Los Angeles; three sisters, Kathie Henderson and Nancy Bauer, both of Los Angeles and Christine Clark of San Diego; a brother Arthur Jacobs of Los Angeles; four grandchildren: Danielle, Jared, Patrick and Ashley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on April 24 at Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria. Memorial contributions are suggested to either the Naselle Library, 4 Parpala Road, Naselle, WA 98638 or the National Wildlife Federation, c/o 1165 Franklin Avenue, Astoria, OR 97103.
