PORTLAND - Klipsan Beach resident Jodie M. (Backus) Bolden, 46, died April 26, 2004, in Portland following a seven-year battle with cancer. The daughter of Walter and Shirley (Dalton) Backus, she was born in Vancouver on June 27, 1957.
She graduated from Hudson Bay High School in Vancouver in 1975. During her senior year she attended Magee School of Beauty where she earned her license in cosmetology, a skill she took great pride in. After working five years in Vancouver she moved to the Long Beach Peninsula in 1980 where she owned and operated Jodie's Hair Styling Salon.
She met Charles Bolden and they were married Dec. 18, 1982, and made their life together in Ocean Park. Her daughter Lacie Marie was born March 1, 1986; after Lacie was born Mrs. Bolden was a volunteer for any school or community group that needed a helping hand. The focus of her life was her family and she enjoyed camping and going to the races. She also loved to garden and enjoyed being outdoors at the beach.
Besides her husband and daughter, she is survived by her parents Walter and Shirley Backus of Ocean Park, her father- and mother-in-law Les and Connie Bolden of Ocean Park; siblings Julie and Jim Hubbard of LaCenter, Jim Backus of Battleground, Mit and Randy Renzi of Republic and Jeanie Butler of Vancouver; her husband's siblings who were very special to her include Mark and Cheri Bolden of Long Beach, Jerry and Barb Bolden of Raymond, Lori and Jim Nice of Lyle and Joan and Greg Christoson of Sutherlin, Ore.; nieces and nephews Chasitty McCabe of Yacolt, Charitty Harvey of Minot, N.D., Kalisha Burton of Vancouver, Nita Backus of St. John, Tyson Backus of Camas, Billy Backus of Bremerton, Kasey Butler of Vancouver, Cole Hubbard of Bremerton, Johnny Frueler of Ocean Park, Chris Backus of Republic, Mike and Shawntae Barnett of Long Beach, Travis Barnett and Haley Johnston of Sutherlin, Ore., Tucker and Katie Christoson of Sutherlin, Ore., Mitchell and Blade Bolden of Raymond and Hannah Bolden of Long Beach; great nieces and nephews Tony and Faith Backus of Camas, Gracie Barnett of Long Beach, Dalton Harvey of Minot, N.D., Zachary Burton of Vancouver, Juliann McCabe, Leelyn McCabe, Hannah McCabe and Elizabeth McCabe of Yacolt, and three more on the way. All her family were a great joy to her.
