TACOMA - Jury selection concluded Thursday, Jan. 13, in the trial of Martin Jones of Seaview, who is charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with an alleged attack on then-State Trooper Scott Johnson in Long Beach in February 2010.

Pierce County Superior Court does not conduct trials on Fridays and Monday, Jan. 17, is Martin Luther King Day, so the trial will begin on Tuesday with opening statements from the prosecution and defense attorneys. Testimony will begin immediately after the defense's opening.

Johnson, who is now Pacific County sheriff, is not expected to testify until later on in what is expected to be a fairly lengthy multi-day trial. It is being held in Tacoma because the defense argued that Jones could not receive a fair trial inside Pacific County.
