TACOMA Jury selection concluded Thursday, Jan. 13, in the trial of Martin Jones of Seaview, who is charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with an alleged attack on then-State Trooper Scott Johnson in Long Beach in February 2010.
Pierce County Superior Court does not conduct trials on Fridays and Monday, Jan. 17 was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so the trial began on Tuesday with opening statements from the prosecution and defense attorneys. Testimony was set to begin immediately after the defenses opening.
Johnson, who is now Pacific County sheriff, is not expected to testify until later on in what is expected to be a fairly lengthy multi-day trial.
The Observer will be covering the trial as it moves along in cooperation with the Daily Astorian and the Aberdeen Daily World.
