Joyce Magnuson receives state DAVA 'Lady of the Year' award

NASELLE - Joyce Magnuson of Naselle recently was awarded the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary (DAVA) "Lady of the Year" award for Washington State.

"Joyce is the wife of Howard Magnuson, who is an ex-POW from World War II in Germany. She has been in the auxiliary for many years," said Debra Price, the DAVA secretary, as she presented the award.

The auxiliary provides support to disabled veterans by holding fund raisers, going to nursing homes to check in on disabled veterans, and by providing transportation for veterans to doctor or hospital appointments.

Both of the Magnusons have attended monthly meetings of the local DAVA, which are held at the Delaware Plaza in Longview, for many years.

The DAVA is holding a raffle to support disabled veterans, especially at the VA Hospital in Vancouver. The main item to be raffled off will be a crocheted American flag, which Joyce crocheted.

Raffle tickets for a $1 donation are available by calling the Magnusons at 484-3101. Joyce said, "There will be the flag raffle as well as several other items which we have made. The raffle drawing will be held at one of the Kelso schools but you don't have to be present to win."
