SEASIDE - Alex Berta's fielder's choice and a throwing error scored two runs and gave Seaside a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning and his booming clutch triple to right center with the bases loaded an inning later broke the game open and sparked a 10-3 taming of the Portland Titans in pool play Sunday.

Berta's blast in the seventh came with two outs and he scored on a throwing error to up the score to 8-3. Mike Rizzuto pitched six stellar innings to earn the win. The left-hander gave up three unearned runs and yielded but six hits. Toby Wright pitched a scoreless seventh in relief to preserve the victory. The Wildcats finished with a perfect 3-0 mark in pool play in the NWCL tournament, insuring home team advantage in the championship tilt.

Berta was 2-3 with a double, triple, and four RBI. Shortstop Ed Pavese was 2-3. The first three innings of the contest were shaky at best as the Titans led 3-2, due to three errors by Seaside and two by Portland. In earlier action the Portland Javelinas defeated Aloha 9-3 for third place in the NWCL tournament.

Brendan Landwehr was 3-3 at the plate, including a triple and a sacrifice fly, good for three RBI to lead the Wildcats offense. Adding to the Seaside hit parade were Kyle Hallett, Alex Berta, Mike Rizzuto, Steve Binder, Jordan Haddon, and Luke Lavicky.

Corwin in control as Seaside sinks Pacific Javelinas 6-2SEASIDE - Kyle Corwin didn't allow an earned run in his six innings of toil on the mound, the veteran righty struck out six and walked but two, while firing a four-hitter at the Pacific Javelinas Saturday afternoon. Dan Wolfe pitched a scoreless seventh to keep the Wildcats in the win column in pool play.

Mike Rizzuto was 2-3 with a walk, Ed Pavese earned three free passes and scored the go-ahead run, and Brendan Landwehr and Eric Gangenbein both added signles to the Seaside attack. A Pavese bases-loaded walk tied the score in the fifth frame and Alex Berta's two-RBI single and an error added all the insurance Corwin would need.
