Lewis L. Neace

ILWACO - Lewis L. Neace, 95, died Nov. 26, 2004, at his home. The son of Charles E. and Eva Neace, he was born at home on Feb. 5, 1909, in Wailsburg, Wash.

Dr. Neace was a lieutenant in the Army Medical Corps and was in the South Pacific for three years.

He attended Pacific University and McGill University in Montreal, receiving an M.D. degree. He used to visit the Peninsula as a child and moved here permanently in 1946 and established a medical practice. He was a physician for 51 years before his retirement.

On April 24, 1957, he married Aira M. Pitkanen in the Ocean Park Methodist Church. The couple loved being part of the community. For many years, Dr. Neace provided free physicals for all school sports players in Naselle and Ilwaco as a community service.

He loved to travel, garden, and enjoyed high school sports. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis, and Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, at home; daughter Suann Munhoven and her husband Don of Ketchikan, Alaska; son Charles L. Neace and wife Jami of Long Beach; grandchildren Donald, Lisa and Miles Munhoven, and Ahnna and Julia Neace. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister Winifred McCown.

There will be a private interment in Wailsburg, next to his parents. A local memorial service will be announced next week. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ilwaco Sports Boosters, P.O. Box 453, Ilwaco, WA 98624.
