ILWACO — On Oct. 16 AAUW hosted a voter forum at the Hilltop Auditorium bringing together the candidates public to discuss issues in the coming election.

As in the past, audience questions illuminated specific concerns and interests, along with the views of incumbents and challengers.

Present to answer questions were Bob Dingethal, candidate for U.S. representative; Robert Bowers standing in for U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler; Lisa Ayers for county commissioner; David Burke and Mark McClain for prosecuting attorney; Doug Goelz and Nancy McAllister for District Court judge; and Joe Basil and Mike Swanson for PUD commissioner.

In addition, Robert Blake and Phillip Watson presented the pros and cons of the two citizen initiatives on gun control — I-591 and I-594.

AAUW tried but was unable to find speakers to address an initiative on K-12 class sizes.

Moderator was Natalie Hanson, timekeeper was Marty Lemke and the runners for presenting questions to the moderators were Dixie Wood, Charlotte Paliani, Melissa Goldberg, Sandy Stonebreaker, Debbie Anderson and Barbara Carmel.

AAUW expressed appreciation to Amy Huntley and Sandy Stonebreaker for making the auditorium available for the event.
