NASELLE — Newly elected Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Director Amy Chadwick was sworn in on Dec. 19 as a member of the board, replacing Bud Strange.
District Superintendent Lisa Nelson addressed Strange’s many contributions to the board and the district and presented him with a plaque commemorating his years on the board.
Chuck Hendrickson and Nick Nikkila were elected to continue as board chair and vice-chair respectively. Chadwick was selected to serve as the board’s legislative liaison.
Board approvals included hiring Robert Baker as boys’ C-squad basketball coach and hiring Ryley Queener as the weight room supervisor. The board approved its previously read Policy 2410 pertaining to graduation requirements. Computers and other items were listed as surplus property and purchase of new health materials was authorized.
Nelson provided a first reading of Policy 2110 having to do with transitional bilingual instruction.
Nelson reported the student population for December is: K-12 336, Naselle Youth Camp School 81 and, Columbia Virtual Academy 22.
The board was shown a letter of appreciation received from the activity director at the Golden Sands Assisted Living facility in Ocean Park. Members of the school band provided a musical Christmas performance at the facility. Director Pam Fox noted, “Your students are obviously held to a high standard and our folks simply love having them. But, beyond that, your students shine with a unique radiance that brings fresh joy to our residents.”
Nelson noted members of NGRVSD’s football team were named as “All League,” including Erik Lund – League MVP; Vince Fauver – Defensive MVP; Cole Dorman – quarterback; Ethan Lindstrom – kicker; Carson Bergeson – offensive line; Josh Townsen and Jacob Eaton – offensive ends; Antonio Nolan – defensive back; and Nick Gaines – outside linebacker/defensive end.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Directors will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 16 in the Middle School Commons.
