Looking to be a part of the solution to the worst fire season Washington state has seen in years?
The volunteer coordination center at The Shepherds Way in Springdale, Wash., is in desperate need of supplies and equipment to protect their fire safety zone and harbor the hundreds of local evacuees and volunteer firefighters who are currently living in tents on their property.
The Sea School Cooperative, a local nonprofit educational organization, is assisting in statewide coordination efforts of donations for The Shepherds Way, the animal sanctuary which is generously offering their land and supplies to people and animals in need.
Cooperative staff has been on the ground in Winthop providing mobile tankers, food and labor. “This is the most effective local effort we know of,” according to a press release. “They are making a difference, but they need support. We are looking to get more supplies into the hands of locals to help them in their efforts to save their homes and livelihoods and to support the firefighters risking their lives.”
What They Need
Crisis Equipment: Each pump rig is $500 for the water container, pump and hoses (Rural Tanker Truck). These are highly mobile vehicles able to manage the rough terrain of Eastern Washington. They need gas funds to get them from Long Beach to Springdale. With $3,000 they will be able to get them four RTTs and supplies enough for hundreds.
Basic Needs: They are in desperate need for extra large tarps, tents, blankets, non-perishable foods, baby formula, diapers (cloth or disposable), dog food, basic medical supplies (band-aids, saline, q-tips, cotton balls/swabs, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, etc). Please contact Sea School Cooperative if you have items to donate as well as funds and they will coordinate pickups along the I-5 corridor. Everything helps. They are a 501(c)3 and all donations are tax deductible. Know that your contributions are going directly to support those most in need, volunteering firefighters and people who have lost everything.
