CHEHALIS — Lewis County detectives are seeking information about a fatal shooting that occurred at a campsite over the holiday.
At about 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, a 63 year-old man told 911 dispatchers he had shot a man in self-defense, while camping on Forest Service Road 2801. The site is off of Cispus Road, near the small eastern Lewis County town of Randle.
Deputies and detectives from Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded, with assistance from officers from Washington State Patrol, Morton Police and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Due to darkness and other conditions at the remote site, investigators resumed processing the scene on Wednesday morning, according to press release from LCSO Special Services Chief Dustin Breen.
All parties have been accounted for, and there is no lingering threat to the public, Breen said.
As of the morning of July 6, detectives had not released the name of the victim or the shooter, but Breen anticipated releasing more information in the near future.
The investigators are asking anyone who might have information about the shooting to call LCSO at (360)748-9286, or Lewis County Communications at (360)740-1105.
