SEAVIEW — A local man was treated and arrested following a Dec. 30 motorcycle-vs-pickup accident that authorities allege may have involved drugs or alcohol.
According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, Michael James Hoyt, 46, of Ilwaco, was riding his 1983 Honda motorcycle southbound on U.S. Highway 101 around 12:40 a.m. when the driver of a red Nissan pickup slowed to make a left turn. Although the pickup’s driver, Jerry Matzen, 28, of Long Beach, signaled, Hoyt allegedly did not stop in time and struck the back of the pickup, the WSP report said.
Both Matzen and his passenger, Ronnell Chambers, 50, of Seaview, were wearing seatbelts. Neither was injured.
Hoyt was taken to Ocean Beach Hospital for treatment.
The WSP report says the cause of the accident is still under investigation. However, Pacific County Jail records show that a WSP trooper arrested Hoyt on suspicion of third-degree driving with a suspended license and DUI shortly after the accident occurred. On Tuesday morning, Hoyt was being lodged in the jail. No bail was listed.
