NORTH LONG BEACH — Responders on Friday, Nov. 6, retrieved the body of a man from a ditch near the corner of Pioneer and Sandridge Roads.

The deceased was Melvin Miller, 73, who lived in the 300 block of 102nd Street, Sheriff Scott Johnson said in a Nov. 7 phone interview.

Miller died while on one of the daily walks that he profoundly enjoyed, a friend said Monday.

Johnson said a citizen discovered the deceased man lying face down in some water on Friday morning. There were no obvious indications of foul play, but police and the coroner are still investigating, Johnson said.
