Sid's

The sign at Sid’s IGA Market in Seaview recognized Sid Snyder’s death in 2012. The grocery store has been sold and is becoming Long Beach Shop’n Kart.

SEAVIEW — Sid’s IGA Market in Seaview has been sold, ending 67 years of ownership by the Snyder family.

It will transition to a new name — Long Beach Shop’n Kart. The Southwest Washington purchaser, Darris McDaniel, also operates Shop’n Kart market in Westport and Shop’n Kart Fuller’s Market Place in Centralia.

Sid’s started in 1953 when Sid and Bette Snyder bought the Seaview Market. Sid went on to become a political dynamo in Washington state, eventually serving as state Senate majority leader before his death in 2012 at age 86.

Sid Snyder Jr. and long-time manager Chuck Winn remained active in running the store following Sid Sr.’s retirement, but both have wanted to retire themselves. A sale had been in the works for months.

We’ll have additional details in next week’s Chinook Observer.
