SOUTH BEND — In Pacific County Superior Court on May 10, Robert Burton Hutchison, 34, of Sioux City, Iowa, was sentenced to 33 months in prison for violation of a domestic violence protection order.
On April 6, Pacific County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Eastham responded to the report of a domestic violence incident in the Tokeland area. According to the victim, whose name is withheld to protect her identity, she and Hutchison had been dating for three years and have a child.
Despite having an active protection order in place, the victim and Hutchinson decided to come to Pacific County to go to the beach. There, they began arguing and she eventually left him at the beach. She returned a short while later and the pair quarreled. They arrived at the George Town Station and continued to argue. At that point, Hutchinson lunged at her, making contact with her mouth and lip with his chin, according to court documents.
“While the assault was not significant and she refused medical attention, any assault in violation of a no-contact order is a felony and given his significant criminal history, I believe the only way to protect this victim and the community generally was to ensure Mr. Hutchison served a significant prison sentence,” said Mark McClain, Pacific County prosecutor.
Hutchison will also be required to complete probation and have no contact with the victim until 2024. He will be held in the Pacific County Jail until he is transported to prison this week.
