CAPE DISAPPOINTMENT — A private fishing boat with three aboard sank Monday morning off Cape Disappointment as vessels departed the Columbia River en route to the ocean salmon fishery.

The three — an adult man and two teenagers — reportedly were in the water about 20 minutes before being rescued by a charter boat. They were then transferred to a U.S. Coast Guard vessel at about 7:30 a.m. for transportation back to port.

A Chinook Observer reporter was aboard the charter boat. Due to holiday-related early deadlines, details and photos about this story will be published online later today rather than in Wednesday’s print edition.
