Westport, Oregon, man arrested after deadly road rage

A Longview man was killed after a road rage incident in Westport on Wednesday.

A Westport, Oregon, man was arrested following a deadly road rage incident Wednesday in Westport.

After passing each other several times while driving west on U.S. Highway 30 just after 4 p.m., Jeffrey Craig Stone, 65, turned onto Old Mill Town Road. Curtis Michael Russell, 22, of Longview passed Stone a final time before stopping in the middle of the road.

Russell, with a small baseball bat in hand, got out of the car to approach Stone, witnesses said. Stone then allegedly drove around Russell’s car, in the process striking and dragging him.

Officers later found Russell’s body near Green Alley Road, more than 1,300 feet from the highway intersection.

Stone allegedly fled the scene before returning, when he was arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter, failure to perform the duties of a driver to an injured person, reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants. He was taken to the Clatsop County Jail.

Investigators don’t believe Stone and Russell knew each other.

Stone has previous convictions for first-degree arson and first-degree aggravated theft in 2004 and DUII in 2009.
