LONG BEACH - The 62nd Peninsula Saddle Club Long Beach Rodeo will be held July 28 and 29. The event, sponsored by Brim's Farm and Garden, promises to be bigger and better than ever. Both mornings will feature a cowboy breakfast in the clubhouse at the grounds located at 6407 Sandridge Road from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The rodeo will begin at 1 p.m. both days and includes nearly 100 competitors from the Northwest Professional Rodeo Association and courageous amateurs. Gold Buckle Rodeo Company from Roosevelt provides the stock. They run 60 head of horses and 40 bulls. In 2005 the bull, Scream, was named bucking bull of the year.

Lee Daggett of Enterprise, Ore. will be announcing the rodeo events and will keep the crowd in stitches with his down-home humor. J.J. Harrison, who was voted barrel man of the year in 2005, is one of the most athletic, talented and funny rodeo clowns around. He will perform at the Long Beach Rodeo. He might even try his hand at singing again.

There will be a beer garden sponsored by Budweiser and over a dozen vendors will have food and other wares for sale, as well. The clubhouse crew will be serving burgers, hot dogs and much more for lunch. Be advised that the tempting smell of fried onions will be very difficult to pass up.

Saturday evening is family night. Children can participate in events ranging from stick horse rides and tug-of-war to hangman, mutton busting and horse races. Sponsors for the 62nd rodeo include the Chinook Observer, Peninsula Sanitation, Clatsop Distributing, Peninsula Pharmacies, Papa Jack's, Sid's Market, Pacific Realty, Blue Dolphin and Ilwaco Market as well as Brim's Farm and Garden.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and children under five are free. A 50-cent discount can be obtained by purchasing tickets early at any of the three Peninsula Pharmacies in Ilwaco, Long Beach and Ocean Park.
