6 slices "Texas Toast" bread

8 eggs

3 cups milk

½ cup half and half cream

2 teaspoons vanilla

½ teaspoon cinnamon

¼ cup butter

1-1/3 cups brown sugar

¼ cup light corn syrup

Butter a 9x13 inch pan. Arrange the slices of bread in the bottom of the pan. (You might have to coax them a bit but it works) Beat the eggs, milk, cream, vanilla and cinnamon together. Pour over bread slices, cover and refrigerate overnight.

The next morning, preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small saucepan combine butter, brown sugar and corn syrup. Heat to bubbling. Pour over bread and egg mixture. Bake, uncovered for 40 minutes.

This puffs up while baking, then "falls" somewhat and ends up more like a custard than French toast. It actually could be used as dessert, topped with sweetened fresh fruit, possibly adding whipped cream.
