1 cup oatmeal

2 cups boiling water

½ cup honey

¼ cup molasses

2 teaspoons salt

1 tablespoon Crisco shortening

1 package granulated yeast

½ cup lukewarm water

6 cups (approximately) flour

6 tablespoons powdered (dried) milk

Combine boiling water and oats. Mix. Then stir in honey, molasses, salt and shortening. In a cup, dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water. Let stand until foamy.

When oatmeal has cooled to lukewarm, stir in dissolved yeast. Mix. Gradually add flour and powdered milk. Beat thoroughly. Flour a pastry cloth with 1/2 cup flour, turn out dough on floured cloth and knead for 10 minutes. Put dough in a large, greased bowl. Turn once to grease top. Put in a warm place, cover and let rise until double, about 1 1/2 hours.

Punch down, divide in half and place in two greased bread pans. Let rise again until the dough is over the top of the pans, about an hour. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Bake 30 to 35 minutes. Turn onto cooling racks.
