2 cups flour, plus extra for kneading and rolling

1 tablespoon sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

2/3 cup water

1/3 cup oil

Strawberry jam, homemade if available

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Place dry ingredients in a large bowl. Mix water and oil in a 2-cup measure. Add to dry ingredients and mix well.

Place dough on a floured board or cloth and knead 20 strokes. Roll or pat dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Use a 4-inch heart-shaped cutter to cut out biscuits. Place half of the biscuits on a greased cookie sheet. Put one teaspoon of jam on each rounded top of heart. Pull together toward the point. Cut a small heart from the center of remaining hearts. Dampen the edges of hearts on the pan. Carefully place the second heart on top of each and pinch edges together. It's easy to think of more ways to trim them. Bake until golden.
