LONG BEACH - Nominations are now invited from the public for individuals who have performed acts of heroism since Jan. 1, 2002.

Selected heroes will be honored at the second annual Heroes Banquet presented by the American Red Cross. To be held this year in early November at a location yet to be determined in south Pacific County, the event is a fund-raiser, as well as a community recognition event.

Nomination forms are available at the Chinook Observer office at 205 Bolstad Ave. E Suite 2 or by calling the Red Cross office in Ilwaco, 642-5766.

Nominations may be made by individuals, groups, businesses, churches or organizations. Various categories of heroism to be honored include medical, water, or fire rescue, Good Samaritan acts, emergency preparedness and response, community advocacy, law enforcement, and animal rescue.
