ILWACO - Members of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary No. 62 are offering a boater education safety class starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 in the Port of Ilwaco meeting room. The cost of the class is $25, which includes all course materials.

In 2005 a law was passed requiring boat operators who were born after Jan. 1, 1955, to take a boater education course to operate boats with 15 horsepower motors or greater. Card requirements are being phased in from 2008 to 2014. Call 665-3179 for the exact age group year.

Members of Flotilla 62 are willing to teach any group in Ilwaco, Long Beach, Ocean Park, Naselle, South Bend and Raymond. The only requirements are a minimum of 10 people and a room big enough for the class. The instructors will come to you.

Successful completion of the course will result in the required Boater Education Card. Pre-register for the Feb. 21 class by calling David Sargeant at 665-3179.
