ILWACO - Eleven Past Masters and two other long-time members were honored - one received a 60-year pin, the other a 50-year pin.
Occident Lodge is very unusual in view of declining membership and scanty participation among practically all fraternal organizations.
"With 61 members on the roster, we often get more than 40 percent of the members to regularly attend our 'First Thursdays' monthly lodge meetings at which dinner is served by members of Job's Daughters," local Masons said in a press release. "This fact of excellent participation in itself may be worthy of a story. Many organizations cannot get enough attendance for a quorum, but Occident Lodge possibly has among the best attendance records in the entire nation, based on the percentage that come to each meeting. Our members are from every walk of life. The principles that bring us together are very honorable. We try, both as a group, and as individuals, to have a positive impact on the community and each person with whom we have contact."
