ILWACO - Melvin A. Fisher, 62, died of cancer on Oct. 30, 2003 in Ilwaco. The son of Melvin A. Fisher Sr. and Jessie Gray, he was born Aug. 14, 1941 in Portland.

On Sept. 21, 1977 he married Martha C. Fisher in Oregon City, Ore.

For the past three years the couple lived in Ocean Park where Mr. Fisher worked as a security guard. He loved to work with his hands and made yard benches. He also loved the beach and camping.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons David and Larry Farrar; daughter Machell Nichols; sisters Janet Rainville of Milwaukie, Ore., and Joyce Van Sickle of Auke Bay, Alaska; nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Heritage Museum at 16th and Exchange in Astoria. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an account at The Bank of the Pacific to help with costs.
