SOUTH BEND - An Ilwaco-area woman was sentenced Friday in Pacific County Superior Court to 14 months in prison for two counts of second-degree assault.
According to Pacific County Chief Deputy Prosecutor David Bustamante, Jamee Kuehner-Dever, 31, had been baby-sitting a 16-month-old girl for her neighbors when the parents began noticing bruises and minor injuries on the girl and "suspected foul play," he said.
"They rigged up a video camera to find out what was going on," he said. After reviewing a tape, Bustamante said, they saw Kuehner-Dever "intentionally dropping the child numerous times, sometimes on her face, with no apparent provocation. She'd walk away and leave her, then come back and drop her again."
After serving her prison term, Kuehner-Dever will serve 10 years in community custody, minus the 14-month prison term, and will be under "very strict supervision by the Department of Corrections," Bustamante said.
She also must attend therapy and counseling sessions and must take any medication prescribed by the therapist and counselor.
