Naselle Principal Karen Wirkkala honored for achievements

NASELLE — Naselle Principal Karen Wirkkala was recently presented a Washington Achievement Award, which is given by OSPI and the State Board of Education, by Dr. Twyla Barnes, superintendent of ESD 112.

This award was given to recognize Naselle Junior-Senior High School for showing consistent gains in the areas of language art (reading and writing), math, science, extended graduation rates, and making adequate yearly progress.

Schools are selected based on their statewide assessment data for the three previous years. Dr. Barnes stated that Naselle is one of very few schools who have consistently been the recipient of this award each year. Naselle-Grays River Valley School District has received the School of Distinction/Washington Achievement Award each year since 2006.
