NASELLE - The ballots are in the mail. Or, perhaps a more appropriate statement would be: The mail-in and absentee voter ballots for the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Feb. 3 maintenance and operations replacement levy have been sent to the district's voters. The ballots must be postmarked by Feb. 3 to be tallied in the election.
The voters of the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District are voting on a maintenance and operations replacement levy on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The levy, if approved, will replace the current M/O levy and will help finance the school district's operations for the next two years, during 2005 and 2006.
The levy, if approved, will raise $526,000 each year, during 2005 and 2006. The cost per $1,000 of assessed property evaluation will be $3.07 for the first year and $2.98 the second year. The dollar amount is for the same amount as the current expiring levy.
Chairman of the citizens' committee for the passage of the levy Mike Swanson stated, "With the approval of these funds, the programs which the district currently has in place will generally be able to be continued. Without the levy approval, the district will be faced with having to cut or reduce in several areas that are vital to our children's' education. Please remember that, this levy just 'replaces' the current one at the exact same dollar amount."
