SEAVIEW — A store tailor-made for the budget conscious has Long Beach Peninsula residents heading to Seaview.

Antique Store owner Suzanne Vlach opened the Dollar Store Plus at 4705 Pacific Way on Oct. 1. It’s attached to the vibrant green Seaview Antique Store she’s owned at the same location for 23 years.

The Dollar Store took over the antique store’s nautical room.

“A dollar store was very much needed on the Peninsula,” Vlach said. “We offer everyday supplies, including cleaning, makeup, cards two for $1, and many useful, economical items.”

Vlach said everything in the store costs $1.25 or less.

“We are in a high shipping (cost) area, so we cannot sell for $1, but $1.25,” she said.

The poor economy prompted the decision to open a discount store, she said. It will benefit a lot of people locally. She looks forward to meeting more of the community, and hopes her antique store customers will stop by.

Vlach hired Daphne Williams to manage the store.

The first few weeks have been encouraging, Vlach said. She has already knocked down a wall to make room for more bargain merchandise.

The store is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Vlach plans a grand opening for Oct. 31.
