Obituaries: Barbara Elenore Barstad

LONG BEACH - Ocean Park resident Barbara E. Barstad, 81, died Jan. 25, 2007, in Long Beach. One of five children born to John and Ada (Peale) Lozier, she was born in Medford, Ore., on April 9, 1925. Her father was a truck driver and the family lived wherever he found work throughout Oregon. Eventually the family settled in Portland where she graduated from Girls Polytechnic High School.

She married Robert Barstad on Aug. 24, 1945, and they honeymooned on the Long Beach Peninsula. Settling in Portland Mrs. Barstad was a devoted wife and mother. She also worked as a switchboard operator at the Portland Airbase until retiring in 1983. In 1984 she and her husband moved to Ocean Park.

She was a member of the Ocean Park Eagles. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. Her family and especially her grandchildren were very special to her and they will miss this special lady.

Besides her husband of nearly 62 years, survivors include her daughter, Connie Hashin of Vancouver; son, Steven Paul Bennke of Vancouver; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach. A reception follows at the chapel. Visit
