ASTORIA - Daniel N. "Danny" Butler, 68, of Astoria, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at home. He was born Jan. 14, 1940, in Portland.
From 1958 to 1962, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Mr. Butler was an architect and traveled throughout the Middle East and Europe designing buildings and private homes. He retired in 2001. For five years, he owned the Triangle Tavern in Astoria with his wife before retiring again.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Family members said he enjoyed driving his sports car on back roads with the top down, sitting on his deck looking at the Columbia River and conversing with friends.
On June 21, 2008, he married Sharon L. Rose in Astoria. She survives, residing in Astoria. The couple moved to Astoria seven years ago.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Donnetta Westphaul of Portland; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kelly and Andrew Holtz and Chrissy Anderson, all of Portland; and three grandchildren, Nicole Lampert of Salem, Ore., and Aaron and Judy Holtz of Portland. His parents preceded him in death.
At Mr. Butler's request, there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one's local hospice. Ocean View Cremation & Burial Service in Astoria is in charge of the arrangements.
