OCEAN PARK - Jess Brittain, 79, died at his Ocean Park residence on July 25, 2010. Born in Kettle Falls on June 8, 1931, he was the son of Jess and Gertrude (Patterson) Brittain. He grew up on the family homestead in Lead Point where he lived in a log cabin with 12 brothers and sisters. He attended a one-room schoolhouse until the sixth or seventh grade when new adventures called.
He was a hard worker his entire life. He was a skilled diesel mechanic, drove log truck and fished commercially. Twenty years ago he moved to the Peninsula where he owned and operated Jess' Diesel in Ilwaco until retirement.
Mr. Brittain was happiest being outdoors. He was particularly fond of fishing, hunting and camping and was a snowbird who enjoyed winters in Arizona. He dearly loved his canine companion, Killer.
On May 21, 1966, he married Vivian Gooch-Tetreau, who survives residing in Ocean Park. Also surviving are daughters, Karen Fitzgerald of Ilwaco, Charlotte Amstutz of Vancouver and Francine McCarty of Vancouver; grandchildren, Joshua McCarty, Jennifer Christianson, Angela McCollum, Denise Fitzgerald, Jess Fitzgerald and Jennifer Lichak; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
No service will be held at this time. A memorial potluck may be announced at a later date. His guest book is available at (www.penttilaschapel.com).
