Obituaries: Joan K. Pierro

NASELLE - Joan K. Pierro, 73, died April 27, 2009, at her Naselle residence. The daughter of Erwin and Connie (Reichert) Gebhardt, she was born in Los Angeles on Aug. 28, 1935.

She graduated from Hollywood High School, Pomona College and the University of Southern California with a degree in teaching. For a number of years she taught elementary school in Los Angeles before teaching at a small Lutheran school in Torrance, Calif. Following retirement she moved to Naselle.

Mrs. Pierro believed in staying busy and was a real "people person." She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, traveling, quilting and she loved following mysteries on TV. After moving to Naselle she volunteered at the heritage museum in Ilwaco and she was a member of Naselle Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Stacey Pierro of Naselle; son, Scott Pierro of Vancouver; a sister, Jeanie Sader of Boulder City, Nev.; a grandson, Alexander Pierro; and nieces, Kim, Connie and Kristine. Her husband Don Pierro preceded her in death in 2003.

A memorial service will be held at the Naselle Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 30, at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to either the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum or Naselle Lutheran Church in care of Penttila's Chapel, P.O. Box 417, Long Beach, WA 98631. The guest book is available at
