ILWACO - John Bernard Jr., 77, of Oysterville died Nov. 21, 2010, in Ilwaco.

He was born on April 14, 1933, in Norfolk, Va., to John Bernard Sr. and Marvell Blake.

On May 6, 1963, he married Barbara Folck. He spent 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of master sergeant. He retired in 1970.

The couple moved to Oysterville upon retirement, where he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Loyal Order of Moose, both in Ocean Park.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. Bernard of Oysterville; a son, Jeffery S. Bernard; daughter, Kendall K. Rivers of Oysterville; one brother, Raymond Bernard of Virginia; a sister, Della "Tina" Fitzgerald of Chesapeake, Va.; grandchildren; Christopher Blake Richards, Jacob Michael Barber of Oysterville, Kortney Marie Barber, Andrew Chad Rivers, and Timothy James Rivers all of Portland; and one great-grandchild. One son, Bradley Craig Bernard, preceded him in death.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Eagles Lodge in Ocean Park at 2 p.m., Dec. 5. Contributions are suggested in his name to the South Pacific County Humane Society or ASPCA in care of Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach. Arrangements are by Penttila's Chapel by The Sea.
