CHINOOK - Larry A. Malchow, 55, died July 14, 2006, at his Chinook residence. The son of Allen and Mildred (Kary) Malchow, he was born Aug. 21, 1950, in Ilwaco. He grew up in Chinook where he attended grade school and graduated from Ilwaco High School.
Mr. Malchow was the third generation of his family to fish commercially in the local area. He operated the vessel Doreen out of the Port of Chinook, having purchased the boat from his grandfather Ed Kary. He fished for crab, salmon and tuna. He was a member of the Chinook Lutheran Church. When not busy fishing he enjoyed trout fishing and driving the back logging roads. He loved animals and was devoted to his entire family.
Survivors include his sons Stefen Malchow of Lacey and Al Malchow of Naselle; his mother Mildred Malchow of Chinook; sister Kristine MacDonald of Silver Peak, Nev.; companion Kathleen Stocking of Chinook; and grandchildren Joseph and Jessica Malchow. His father Allen preceded him in death in 1997.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, July 22, at 10 a.m., at the Port of Chinook Maritime Memorial. A reception follows at The Sanctuary in Chinook.
