Obituaries: Laura Ellen Smith

ILWACO - Ocean Park resident Laura E. Smith, 76, died Nov. 13, 2008, in Ilwaco. The daughter of Edgar and Elsie Mae (Collins) Smith, she was born May 19, 1932, at home in Goldendale. She was a 1949 graduate of Columbia High School in White Salmon.

She married Donn B. Smith on Sept. 9, 1956, and became a devoted wife and mother. She was one of the first certified nursing assistants in Oregon. Twelve years ago she and her husband moved to Ocean Park.

Mrs. Smith was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon and was currently an active member of Peninsula Baptist Church of Ocean Park.

Besides being a homemaker extraordinaire, she enjoyed spinning, weaving, sewing, baking, writing, music, but most of all, her family.

In addition to her husband, Donn, with whom she recently celebrated 52 years of marriage, survivors include her children, Brian (Kathy) Smith of Garden Valley, Idaho, Kathy (Ron) Friesen of Vernon, B.C., Canada, Jeff (Jennie) Smith of Corvallis, Ore., Andy (Kathy) Smith of Milwaukie, Ore., and Jeanne (Steve) Bellinger of Ocean Park; brothers, Edgar James (Lancey) Boyer Jr. of Kennewick and Marvin (Sandy) Boyer of Stateville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, daughter-in-law, and a granddaughter.

A memorial service was held Nov. 18, at Peninsula Baptist Church in Ocean Park. The guest book is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
