LONG BEACH - Marie Schaal, 87, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and sister, passed away on June 24, 2007, at her home in Long Beach. She was born in Preston, Idaho on Nov. 30, 1919, to Marley and Afton Jorgenson. She was the oldest of a family of eight.

She married Jean R. Walker on June 21, 1938, and had six children. Three survive her: Dorothy Cherry of Olla, La., Jean Walker of Hockinson and Marla Schaefer of Long Beach. She married Louis Schaal on Nov. 22, 1953, and lived in Wapato until 1973 when they moved permanently to Long Beach where they built a home.

Mrs. Schaal was a forklift driver at a fruit plant in Wapato. After the move to Long Beach she worked at the Elks Lodge and at various charter offices. She was a beautiful seamstress for many years and had a talent few can claim. She and her husband enjoyed many years of traveling in their motor home to most of the states.

She was a member of the Ocean Park Eagles Auxiliary, the Moose Lodge and the ladies of the Elks. Her great love was dancing which she enjoyed for years. She also volunteered at Fort Columbia, the Eagles, Moose and Elks lodges and enjoyed her many hobbies.

In addition to her three children, survivors include her three brothers, two sisters, five granddaughters, one grandson, four great-grandsons, and three great-granddaughters.

She will always be on our minds and in our hearts.

A private family service was held.
