GIG HARBOR - Miriam Virginia Engelland, long time resident of Long Beach, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, in Gig Harbor.
The daughter of Hans Engelland and Hazel Carlton Engelland, she was born in Tekoe on Nov. 3, 1921. She attended elementary and junior high school in Montesano. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma and attended Washington State University, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Denver where she earned a master's degree in physical therapy. From 1960 until 1979 she ran her own physical therapy practice in Tacoma.
In 1980 she moved to Long Beach where she owned and operated the Surf Motel and the Surf Apartments until recently. She was an accomplished woodworker and loved to make crafts in her workshop. For many years her day could not start "properly" until she had coffee with friends at the Cottage Bakery.
Survivors include her niece, Janyce Bohrmann; nephew, Ron Engelland and his wife Jeanie; sister-in-law, Mavis Engelland and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. At her request no memorial service is planned.
