Obituaries: Violet T. Peterson

ASTORIA - On Thursday, July 19, 2007, Violet T. Peterson, age 89, passed away peacefully at her retirement home in Astoria, Ore. Born on a farm near Dixon, S.D., on May 19, 1918, she was one of nine children born to Clarence and Edith Nelson.

The beautiful ocean beaches and the birds were just part of her many delights. When she was able, she loved to cook and serve others. Her unselfish spirit brought joy to all who knew her. Her ready smile and laughter will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her three children, Howard M. Peterson of Seaview, Ken Peterson and his wife Ruthie of Everett and Dorothy Den Herder and her husband Steve of Sitka, Alaska; three sisters, Fern Peterson, 99, of Vancouver, Olive Dirks, 97, of Bellingham and Laurel Nelson, 95, of Astoria; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, along with a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Howard S. Peterson, her parents and siblings Myrtle Grandberg, Paul Nelson, Hazel Farring, Walter Nelson and Norman Nelson.

A service was held July 23 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver. Interment is at the Garden of Flowers, Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
