LONG BEACH -Â Wilma D. Humason, 93, died surrounded by her family at her Long Beach residence on Nov. 17, 2009. One of 10 children born to Henry and Myrtle (Green) Madorin, she was born in Kirksville, Mo., on June 11, 1916. She grew up in Kirksville where she received her education.
In 1932 she married William "Bill" Humason and they resided in Missouri until moving to Portland in the early 1940s. She became a wife, mother and homemaker. She worked in a laundry in southwest Portland, was a welder at Pacific Chain Company and then was employed in various capacities at Rogers variety stores in the Portland area. Mrs. Humason was an avid pinochle player, enjoyed yard work, took great pride in her flowers and kept her hands busy crocheting. Walks on the nearby beach with her sisters were daily events and she was skilled at crafts, making Christmas ornaments and other knick-knacks. She also looked after her feathered friends, feeding the seagulls, hummingbirds and other birds. A strong-willed Missourian, she was extremely dedicated to her entire extended family.
She is survived by her son, Jackie Humason of West Richland; grandsons, Carl and Scott Harvitt; one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Kathryn Haavisto and Gladys Schneider both of Long Beach, Marjorie Shoop of Lake Oswego, Ore., and JoAnn Burris of Monroe City, Mo. Her family will gather to celebrate her life at a later date. Her guest book is available at (www.penttilaschapel.com).
