OCEAN PARK — On Friday, Dec. 7, sixth grade students at Ocean Park Elementary competed for the title of “Spelling Bee Champion.”

With a list of words from a national grade level spelling list, teacher and coordinator Melissa Linquist reminded the students of the rules then proceeded to divvy up words to a line of kids.

Parents and family members watched as one by one the students attempted to conquer a series of difficult words. Of 30 students, Jacob Zaidins took third place. Adriana Araujo and Jeb Sheldon battled it out for several rounds before Jeb claimed victory by correctly spelling the final word.
