OCEAN PARK - Okie's Sentry Market has tentatively scheduled a flu shot clinic on Sunday, Oct. 17, from noon to 5 p.m. The clinic will be held in the old Farmer's Insurance office, east of Okie's Sentry parking lot. Signs will mark the location at 1906 Bay Ave.

Okie's is sponsoring the clinic as a community service in conjunction with getaflushot.com. The flu shots will cost $20. However, there will be no charge to members of Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon, Medicare Part B, Secure Horizons, ClearChoice HMO and Providence Health Plan Medicare HMO accepted. You must present your card at the clinic.

The clinic will be restricted to only those high-risk individuals who fall under the guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The most recent guidelines designate the following priority groups for the 2004-05 season:

All children aged 6-23 months;

Adults 65 years and over;

All women who will be pregnant during influenza season; Persons age 2 through 64 with underlying chronic medical conditions;

Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities;

Children age 6 months to 18 years on chronic aspirin therapy;

Health-care workers with direct patient care; and

Out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of children less than 6-months-old.

Persons who are not included in one of the priority groups are being asked to forego or defer vaccination due to the urgent supply situation. All are advised to contact their doctors with specific concerns.

This clinic is subject to the availability of vaccine, but looks very promising. Contact Okie's for the latest updates.
