OCEAN PARK - Ocean Park Elementary School Principal Bette Arne is inviting the public to chat and have coffee and cookies every third Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Ocean Park Elementary School staff lounge for the remainder of the school year.
"I'm looking forward to meeting people in an informal manner. I see this time as an opportunity for people to come in and ask questions and discuss just about anything," Arne says. "If people have any questions about our school or the district in general or if they want to know about curriculum, you name it, this is a time we can talk about it."
Arne heard about the coffee chats from OP Secretary Lynn Dickerson, whose daughter was invited to similar meetings in the Tacoma area. "When I searched for 'Principal Coffee' on the Internet I discovered the chats have been going on almost everywhere (in the U.S.)," Arne explains. "I want to make sure we have the chats on a consistent basis so people can get in the habit of coming in. I believe communication is very important and that the chats and coffee may be a great way to have that happen."
Todd Carper, Ilwaco Middle School Principal, held similar chats last year with those meetings being held on Saturdays, according to Arne. The next coffee and chat will be Feb. 15 at the Ocean Park Elementary School staff lounge and will begin at 10 a.m.
