Born June 20, 1910 in Milton-Freewater, Ore., he was the son of Willard and Cora (Arnett) Tichenor. In 1918 he and his family moved to Portland, where he attended local schools. He spent his early years active in sports and found his lifelong love of golf.
He met Margaret Lee Gates in Walla Walla, and they were married in Kelso, on St. Patrick's Day in 1934. They made their first home in Portland, Ore., where Mr. Tichenor was employed at the Historic Paint Pot as a sales representative. He was employed there for 31 years and became vice-president.
In 1953 Mr. and Mrs. Tichenor moved from Portland, Ore., to Ocean Park and were both employed at Doupe Brothers Hardware and Mercantile store in Ilwaco for 15 years. They retired together in 1975.
His passion was the game of golf and he was most often found at the Surfside Golf Course where he once held the club championship. In later years he met Dean Mansur who became a dear friend, walking companion and daily visitor for which Mr. Tichenor's granddaughter Kerry is forever grateful. He was a devout member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Seaview. When he could no longer attend services another good friend, Bob Sauers, and others brought his faith to him.
